Coupons for Tax-Free Day in Mississippi!

No sales tax in Mississippi means that we'll pay 7% less on our clothing and shoes purchases. Not bad if you really need to buy some things, but using coupons could allow for some great deals. Below are some coupons that I've found or been sent. You'll note that some coupons are valid only in MS. If there's not a note, then the coupon is valid nationwide.

Children Place - 25% off, valid July 31 - Aug 1 (Thanks to my friend Heather!)

Kohl's - 15%, valid July 31 - Aug 1 **Possibly MS only**(The coupon could be referring to the tax free days or to the coupon. *Reader Megan just let me know that TN has a 15% coupon with a different code. She also shared that she was able to get a $25 pair of Mary Janes for her daughter for less than $3 [including TN tax] after 70% clearance, 15% coupon, and $5 Kohl's cash.)

JC Penney's - 15%, valid July 29 - Augst 1

Old Navy - Various at OldNavyWeekly.com - (list of hiding places)

There are also the 30% friends and family coupons for Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic. I was under the impression that they were limited in some way, but I see people linking to them on messageboards. If you are interested in getting one of them, check out some of the coupon message boards.

I looked for a Gymboree printable and did not find one. I recall seeing a 20% off card in a Parents or Parenting magazine, but I do not know what issue or if the coupon is still in date. I'd love for someone to share that info if she/he knows!

Great Article about Credit Cards

Money Saving Methods

I just read a fantastic guest post on Money Saving Methods by Mr. Credit Card. The post details the steps in making credits work for you, not against you. I have to admit that I need help in this area!!

Tax-Free Shopping!

Mississippi will have its first tax-free shopping on Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1. Only clothes and shoes are included, as long as they cost $100 or less. (So, if an item costs over $100, you'll have to pay the 7% tax.) Items do not have to be specifically for school, so it might be a good time to shop for yourself, too!

List of Eligible and Non-Eligible Items (This is not the best set up, in my opinion. I'll try to have to an easier to read list in the next day or two.)

Not in Mississippi? Check here to see if your state is participating this year.

My Tips to Save your Day of Tax-Free Shopping:

1) Make a list! You'll stay focused on why you're shopping.

2) Scope out the sales! Tax-free day could be a major $$ saver if you buy clothes that are on sale too.

3) Revise your list to include stores and prices! You may be able to limit the number of stores you visit once you see your list.

3) Shop alone -- or at least without kids! Shopping is so much more fun and less stressful when you can do what you want when you want. Shopping with friends can be great, but sometimes you have to compromise on where to go and what to do. And how many times have you been annoyed because of the shopping buddies who block your way while they discuss if one should try on a dress or not?? If you have kids, I probably don't need to explain why shopping without the kids is easier! Wouldn't it be nice to have a a day...or half a day...or even an hour of shopping without having to constantly tell someone to move or stop?!

4) Consider time, gas, etc! Just because an item is on sale at one store, doesn't mean you have to buy them there. If you have to drive across town just stand in another long line, it might be worth it to buy the item(s) at a store where you'll find other items you need.

Do you have any tips to add? I'd love to hear them! Just leave a comment with your best shopping tip! I'd also love to know if there's anything particular you are going to buy on tax-free day!

Welcome!!!!

When you hear "save the day," you probably think of superheros, right? Unfortunately, Wonder Woman and Spiderman are usually too busy to help us regular folk out in our day-to-day misadventures. Sometimes, our days can be saved by something simple like the perfect lipstick or a free frosty. If only we knew where to find them...

As a working mom of two, I am always looking for ways to save my day by savin' my time, my money, and (most often) my sanity, and I want to pass those ideas on to others in need of a little savin'.

At Savin' the Day, you'll find that I discuss several different topics. Here's a short explanation for each:

Thoughts - Sometimes I want to share an experience, tell my opinion, or maybe just ramble about nothing in particular. Writing helps save my sanity, and hopefully, it will help yours too!

Reviews - I know, I know. There are a lot of review blogs out there. The difference here at Savin' the Day is that I tell you about things - products, movies, music - that save the day for me in some way. I may tell you about a new lipstick I found at Walgreens or a play I saw...who knows. If I do accept compensation for a review, I do that with full disclsoure.

Deals - I LOVE to shop. I save money so that I can have more money to spend. I post deals on products that could save the day for you. I especially try to pair up deals with the products discussed in the review section.

Reads - Reading is my passion, and it has definitely saved my day in many different ways. If I were given three wishes, one of them would be that everyone knew the joy of reading. I don't think I'll be finding a genie's lamp any time soon, so instead I share all types of great books with hope that at least one will spark your interest.

Giveaways - From time to time, I host giveaways of products that will save your day. I also share relevant giveways from around the blogosphere.

I really hope that you enjoy your time here at Savin' the Day! Please feel free to contact me. I'd love to hear from you!

Exciting Changes!

I'm usually not one who is excited by change, but I'm absolutely thrilled about the new things I have in store for Savin' the Day!

The first thing you'll notice in the coming week is a new design. Rachel at Blog Candy Designs has created a GREAT new look for me. The design is exactly what I was looking for -- colorful, yet simple. Rachel has been a dream to work with, and I highly recommend her!

While you're looking at the design, you'll discover navigation tabs for topics that Savin' the Day has never covered. I love sharing sales and deals with my readers, but I have been feeling very limited. I often want to share MORE with you; yet, I felt like I had to stick to the topic of savin' money. Now, you'll get to read my thoughts about a bunch of different topics: books, products, stores, food to name a few. Of course, I'll still share sales and deals and ways to earn money.

I hope that you will join me back here later this week for the NEW Savin' the Day! (There might just be a giveaway or two!)
