Ovarian Cancer Awareness -- The Color of Hope

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. I did not discover this until last night when I read my best friend Jen's blog. Jen had also just found out, and she could not let the month go buy without posting about it. Again, she has graciously allowed me to include her post here.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. Yeah, I'm a little behind on discovering this, but we shouldn't just focus on this for one month. It needs year round attention.

Ovarian cancer awareness and support is a cause very dear to my heart after losing my grandmother nearly two years ago to this terrible disease. This type of cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the U.S. and is the fifth leading cause of cancer among U.S. women. It can strike without warning or cause, and symptoms are vague and subtle, making it difficult to diagnose. Unfortunately, there is no screening test for ovarian cancer but there are tests which can detect it when patients are at high risk or have early symptoms. Even with this test, most patients are still diagnosed in the advanced stages and only 45% survive longer than five years. My grandmother fought two years before losing her battle. It is a long hard fight and is definitely not pretty. Despite these discouraging statistics, when ovarian cancer is detected and treated early, the five year survival rate is greater than 92%. There's your hope.

For the past twelve years, L'Oréal Paris has made a commitment to support ovarian cancer research and is offering you a way to support the cause—the Color of Hope Cosmetics collection. The collection includes four key products from the Color of Hope collection in a silver cosmetics pouch available for a limited time only (during the month of September). With an approximate retail value of almost $50, it is a great value at a retail price of only $29.95.
The set includes:
  • Colour Riche Nurturing and Protective Lipcolour in Color of Hope
  • Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss in Color of Hope
  • 2 Wear Infinite Eye Shadow quads in Bouquet of Strength (shades of teal) and Petals of Promise (shades of mauve)

L’Oréal Paris will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund for each Color of Hope item sold (there are 7 individual products total in the collection available for individual purchase). For each cosmetics bag sold online, $5 will be donated. Since L’Oreal began their Color of Hope campaign, they have raised more than $18 million for the cause. Please help them make a difference.

You can purchase the bag collection here while supplies last:

I actually have a bracelet I purchased from one of the Color of Hope campaigns a few years ago. It reminds me of my grandmother every day and gives me hope that some day this disease will have a better survival rate and better detection methods.
